Love Police Records & Tapes is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of Whiplash in the Moshpit, the debut solo album by Northern Rivers-based, Northern Beaches-bred singer songwriter Mylee Grace. The album was recorded in a cabin in the Byron hinterland by King Gizzard’s live sound engineer and Family Jordan guitarist Sam Joseph, who also plays an array of instruments on the record. Other guests include Mylee's talented mother Maria Stratton, Fiona Franklin, Miles Mylavec (Babe Rainbow) and Mylee’s partner Ozzie Wright (Ozzy Wrong) and friends who sang backing vocals on the final day.
Also, Stu Mackenzie (King Gizzard) created a flute part from his Melbourne studio during Lockdown 2020 and Molly Lewis (pro-whistler extraordinaire) sent a whistlin’ solo from Lockdown in LA.
The album comprises songs Mylee wrote over the last seven years.
Mylee Grace’s music has been described as “Music that makes you feel like you’re on holidays with friends “. It is in some ways a distinctively Australian sound, but not in any traditional way. It’s not country; more like country’s coastal cousin maybe.
Whiplash in the Moshpit is Mylee Grace’s first new release in seven years. Mylee considers the last seven years a significant cycle in her life. “Seven is also the age of my daughter Goldie,” she says. “She was born around the time of the Mylee Grace and Ozzy Wrong Songs album. These seven years have been a time of huge personal growth, learning about boundaries, personal sovereignty and letting go.”
“At the core of it they are all love songs, to nature, the downtrodden, to my friends, partner, family and to those we’ve lost.”
